Ways to Beat the Heat During Your Summer Workouts

Summer is here! It’s the perfect time to make the most of outdoor workouts, but high temperatures can make exercising challenging. To help you stay safe and cool, here are some tips for beating the heat during your workouts this summer.

1. Time Your Workouts Wisely
When working out outdoors, try to exercise during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening. Avoid the midday sun when it's hottest to prevent overheating. Or, you can always join us in the gym for a workout whenever suits. Air con is a beautiful thing!

2. Choose the Right Gear
Wear light-colored, loose-fitting, and moisture-wicking clothing. Don't forget a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect your skin from UV rays if you will be in direct sunlight.

3. Stay Hydrated
Hydrate well before, during, and after your workout. Drink at least half a litre  water a few hours before exercising and about 250 ml ounces every 20-30 minutes during your workout. Consider sports drinks for longer sessions to replenish electrolytes.

4. Find Shade
If possible, exercise in shaded areas like parks with tree cover or shaded outdoor gyms. This can help reduce the risk of heat-related issues.

5. Adjust Your Intensity
Listen to your body and be ready to reduce your workout intensity. Incorporate rest breaks and always stop if you feel dizzy or nauseous.

6. Cool Down Properly
After your workout, cool down with gentle stretching in a cool place. Use a cold towel or take a quick cool shower to help lower your body temperature.

7. Incorporate Water Activities
Swimming and  aqua aerobics are great ways to stay active while keeping cool. These activities provide a full-body workout without the heat stress!
If the heat is too much for you (we totally get it), you can always get your workout in at one of our Lifestyle Fitness gyms with glorious air-con!
